Coffee with the Bloggers: Amanda
Q: If you weren’t blogging for Out of Office, what kind of blog would you want to write?
A: A lot of people claim to be foodies. Well, I am a food nerd! Food science fascinates me, so I’d love to write a blog on everyday nutrition and cooking tips that are easy for anyone to follow. I’d incorporate a section on how certain foods fuel different parts of the body. Of course, it would have to have a glint of humor in there, too. Who wants to read a boring blog on yams?
Q: Favorite type of food?
A: Mediterranean food is my favorite, like Greek salads with feta and Kalamata olives or a simple pasta dish with olive oil, cherry tomatoes and fresh basil. Since I am a native Texan, there will always be a soft spot in my heart for big ol’ plate of fajitas or barbeque. My family’s brisket recipe is hard to top.
Q: Cat or dog person?
A: Dog, hands down. I love all animals, but I have two furry monsters named Gus and Stella who constantly keep me on my toes. Gus is a Toy Fox Terrier and Stella is a Shih Tzu-Maltipoo mix. I’m sure you’ll see plenty of pictures of them here when we feature pet-friendly ideas.
Q: What’s the best thing FedEx ever delivered to you/printed for you?
A: About three and a half years ago I printed the invitations to my sister’s baby shower at FedEx Office® Now, I have a precious three-year-old niece. She means the world to me.
Q: Best vacation you’ve ever taken?
A: My best friend and I went to Seattle for a long weekend last year and it was incredible. The people, food, culture, and yes, even the weather, were awesome and I can’t wait to go back. I think it is my favorite trip I’ve taken because I got to do a little bit of everything, from viewing the city from the top of the Space Needle, watching the otters play at the aquarium, and hiking in Mount Baker National Forest.
Q: Favorite way to relax and unwind?
A: A good book and a glass of wine do wonders for my mental health. I also find a good workout is great for clearing my head and helps me sleep better at night.
Q: How long have you worked at FedEx Office and what do you do there?
A: I’m the newbie around the office – started the first week of August – but it already feels like I’ve been here forever! The people here are so friendly and welcoming. I am lucky to be a part of this fantastic team.
As the Senior Social Media Community Specialist, it is my job to manage and grow the social media channels for FedEx Office. Do you follow us on Twitter? If you do, you’ve probably read some of my work. If you don’t, you should!
Q: What did you study in school? Why, and how, does it connect/not connect to what you do now?
A: I studied Journalism. In my role at FedEx Office, I use my J-schooling quite often, because in business social media channels should be treated like publications. I keep an editorial calendar, write copy and take photos just like a reporter would when working for a magazine or newspaper.
Q: How do you like your coffee?
A: The stronger, the better! For me, it doesn’t get any better than a hot cup of dark French roast coffee with a little sugar and cream, even more so when it’s slightly chilly outside.
