Create a “Dinner Party in a Box” for easy entertaining at home

It’s the New Year and I couldn’t be more excited. 2013 will be a year full of successes, trying new things and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. I don’t know about you, but I often struggle to balance my career with my social life, and try to squeeze in time in with the people who are most important to me. Well not this year! My resolution is to entertain at home more often in order to spend more quality time with my loved ones. The best way for me to do this is to plan ahead for an easy night in. For some people, hosting comes naturally. Others, like me, need a little help. Now, when I want to have people over, I can just grab this box and sift through the contents to get the party planning juices flowing. Think of this as a dinner party preparedness kit.

Here’s how I created a “dinner party in a box.”

  1. Grab an old shoe box or a box you have stored in a closet somewhere. Wrap it, including the lid, with colorful or festive paper. Really make it your own!

From Lemonade Stands to Neighborhood Events, These Banners Will Keep You “Green”

I always joke that when you turn into our neighborhood, you've entered the 1950s. We have children playing in the streets and many neighborhood events and gatherings. What I've noticed lately is that with all the events we have going on (lemonade stands, neighborhood association meetings, Friday meet and greets, rummage sale, etc.), we have a real need for signage that can be reused throughout the year, something that looks a little more polished than the spray painted sheets or plywood that everyone uses currently. ...read more

Here’s To You, Dad!

Father’s Day is fast approaching and that means it’s time to start brainstorming new and exciting ideas to honor the special dads out there. Dads love to grill, but since it’s his day, why not let him hang up the tongs and relax? Instead, pull the kiddos together and start creating a day of backyard fun, complete with customized lawn games and a picnic. Read on for a few tips to get started…

·         Grub. In my opinion, food is the linchpin of any party, and a backyard Father’s Day is no exception. Make all of dad’s favorites, or pick up some delicious takeout from a local restaurant as a special treat. Don’t forget to grab some fun paper plates, cups and plastic silverware and carry it all out to the backyard. All that’s left is to spread out a picnic blanket and enjoy!

Eliminate Cup Confusion with Custom Labels

There’s nothing worse than losing track of your drink at a party. It happens to me all the time, especially at family gatherings where everyone is milling about and engrossed in conversation. There’s the tried and true permanent marker method, where everyone writes their names or initials on their cup, but let’s be honest – it doesn’t look very polished and sometimes if you don’t have the right kind of marker it rubs right off.

Well, it doesn’t have to be this way! The last time I ended up thirsty and drinkless, I came up with a simple idea to keep track of everyone’s drinks without compromising presentation or your party theme. Dry erase labels! I designed a versatile template that I can reuse for parties (including kid’s birthdays!), picnics, volunteer events, or really any time when cup confusion presents itself. Best of all, FedEx Office® can quickly print the labels on a dry erase vinyl, and they offer a multitude of different vinyl colors to match any theme!

DIY Mini Magnets as Chic Home Décor

I love simple, homemade gifts that are unique, serve a purpose and look like they took a lot longer to make than they actually do! To that end, I found a great idea on Keep It Simple for DIY bubble magnets. After I saw this project, I just had to recreate it for my desk. See below for my take and how to replicate it! ...read more
