Coffee with the Bloggers: Leah
Q: If you weren’t blogging for Out of Office, what kind of blog would you want to write?
A: If you turned our Random Ramblings category into a blog, that’d be a good blueprint for something I’d write. I’m naturally random and a little bit silly, and if given a captive audience for my ramblings, opinions, creative ideas, and general excitement about the small things in life, that’d be perfect. I’d probably also incorporate photos of things that inspired me, because I’m a sucker for pictures.
Q: Favorite type of food?
A: Food, period. We have a lot of food-enthusiasts here at the office, but I’m generally the one asking about lunch first. And by first, I mean at 9:45 a.m. Maybe I’ll add a Food of the Day category into the plan for that blog…
Q: Cat or dog person?
A: Dog person all the way, but being allergic to cats doesn’t help their cause much. In fact, I have two rescue dogs: Lucy, who I found on the side of a road in 2005, and Lola, who my now-husband and I adopted from the city shelter. They’re both terrier mixes of some sort and they have the most vastly different yet completely complementary personalities. And yes, we have become crazy dog people and tend to surround ourselves with friends who are similarly insane about their “dog babies.”
Q: What’s the best thing FedEx ever delivered to you/printed for you?
A: Probably my wedding invitations. As I was planning my wedding in 2009, I knew I wanted my cousin to address the invitations for me. Her beautiful, calligraphy-like handwriting makes a grocery list look fancy. The only problem – she lives in California and I live in Texas. But with a little help from FedEx, we bridged the distance and I got my perfectly addressed invitations with plenty of time to spare.
Q: Photo albums or scrapbooks?
A: I hope it comes through on the blog, but I consider myself a fairly crafty person and scrapbooking is a perfect creative outlet for me. I love design and getting to experiment with different colors, patterns and layouts. I remember looking through my mom’s photo albums when I was little and finding pre-Leah life so intriguing. I hope to give my future kids the same experience someday. Until then, it’s just a lot of fun.
Q: Favorite way to relax and unwind?
A: It depends on my mood, but some combination of reading undisturbed for extended periods, exploring new cities, guilty-pleasure reality TV watching, spending time with family and friends, listening to music, shopping, and playing with my dogs. Generally, being able to decide how to spend my day and not being tied to a schedule is my idea of bliss.
Q: What did you study in school? Why, and how, does it connect/not connect to what you do now?
A: I double-majored in journalism and psychology. Obviously, the writing and editing portions of my journalism degree play a little heavier in my day-to-day life now, but the psychology has been known to come in handy, too.
Q: How long have you worked at FedEx Office and what do you do there?
A: I’ve been at FedEx Office since December 2010. Besides writing for the Out of Office blog, I work on public relations campaigns, some social media activity, and refreshing and maintaining the company’s history in our lobby museum. I’ve also been hard at work on a new communications channel for our team members, which launches soon.
Q: How do you like your coffee?
A: Generally speaking, I am a sucker for a certain well-known coffee company’s Cinnamon Dolce Latte (nonfat, no whip, please!). There’s something about it that gets me motivated and makes me really happy. On the weekends, my husband makes the at-home version using the grinder/coffee maker combo that we got as a wedding gift (thanks, Aunt Linda!) and his own special blend of flavored creamers and sugar.
