Independence Day Party and Craft Ideas

Are you looking forward to Independence Day? Down here in the south, it is a BIG family day.  We BBQ, swim, eat watermelon, and hang together all day and most of the night.  I have many memories of awesome July Fourth days from my childhood and strive to give my kids memories of their own.

 

I have done some Internet research to find a few craft projects that my boys (10, 8, and 3) can make to decorate the house and yard for The Fourth of July and since I am guest posting here, I thought this would be great to share with everyone.  :-)

 

I found some really great idea starters on Kaboose, a Web site from Disney Online. Under their “craft” tab I found some fun and easy projects. Just search the highlighted words below on Kaboose to get started, and check out the other ideas I came up with to really spice up your Fourth of July party decorations and activities!

 

For the table:

1. Patriotic Napkin Rings
2. Firecracker Napkin and Utensil Holder
3. To complete your table decorations, go to your local butcher and ask for enough paper to cover a table.  Bring it home and have the kids color it with stars and more! You can even cut out stars from magnet sheets (found at your local craft supply store), punch a hole in one point, and hang on the corner of your handmade table cloth to keep the wind from blowing it away.  Why magnet?  Because, it is heavy AND you can use them on the fridge during the rest of the year.

 

For the House or Fence:

1. Patriotic Paper Plate Garland
2. American Flag Wall Hanging
3. Be sure to add a few simple windsocks to round out the decorations!  Search the house and ask family members to get you their empty toilet paper and paper towels tubes!  Paint the paper tubes in patriotic colors – be sure to cut paper towel tubes in half!  After it is dry, simply staple 8 to 12 inch strips of red, white, and blue yarn, crepe paper, ribbon, or paper pieces to the inside edge of one end.  On the other end, punch two holes across from each other and tie a piece of string or yarn to hang the windsock!  

 

Fun for the Kids (and adults!):

Make your party memorable by having a few games and prizes. :-)

1. It is HOT! Have a water balloon toss using only red, white, and blue balloons.
2. Pin the star on the flag is a great way to get those “less than active” kids involved in the fun, too!
3. Have a “war” with water guns!
