Liz’s Big 8-0 Birthday Party (Yeehaw!)

As my mother’s 80th birthday approached, my siblings and I wanted to plan a party for her worthy of all her warmth, love and support over the years. Turning 80 is a big deal, right?

The first decision to make was where to host the party. My mom, Liz, is a native Texan and very proud of her roots. She wanted to have a Texas/western themed party, which helped us narrow down the appropriate venues. We decided on a ranch in Gainesville, Texas, which turned out to be the perfect option. It was a beautiful and rustic venue that offered hayrides, campfires and plenty of room for the kids to run around.
 
 
The next item to cross off our list was the party invitations. Staying with the western theme, I searched the design options on the FedEx Office®. The adorable red and white bandana invitations were perfect for our event. Casual and fun, western and whimsical – kind of like my mom!
 
With some extra invitations on hand, my mom chose a frame she liked and mounted an invitation on a large matte, leaving room for all the guests to write special messages to her. She loved this unique keepsake.
 
 
 
Another bonus for choosing these invitations was the matching banner also available from FedEx Office. Partnered with some balloons, the banner made for an awesome way to welcome our guests, and we used it as a photo backdrop to get photos of my mom with different groups of her family and friends.
  
It also became the perfect backdrop for our faux photo booth. The kids (and some adults) had a great time putting on all the hats, silly glasses and boas.
 
 
 
We outfitted the tables with simple decorations including glass vases my sister and I already had at home,red apples, branches from the yard, strips of brown burlap with red bandanas and votive candles. We even used cowboy boots my nephew had outgrown to make small flower arrangements.
 
A casual barbeque dinner was the perfect meal for the western theme, and we ended the night by the campfire making s’mores.
