An Ovation-Worthy Oscar Party

I am sooo excited…the Oscars take place on March 7th – something I watch as devoutly as many people watch the Super Bowl. And this year it’s bigger and better than ever with 10 films to pick from for Best Picture. I think that calls for a celebration! Pop the popcorn, bring out the Junior Mints and invite your favorite film friends over for a “night at the Oscars” party.
Because of all the great titles up for the award this year, I thought I’d throw an idea out there. Rather than just having some friends over to watch the stars and critique the fashions – maybe this year it’s time to get into the Academy Awards action by bringing Hollywood home. Bring the movies to life at the party by asking all the guests to dress as a character in one of the nominated films. And with the movies this year, things could get very interesting!
From painting your face to look like a blue alien in Avatar to dressing up like royalty in The Young Victoria and The Princess and the Frog, the more inventive the better. You could even spice things up by handing out an award for “Best Costume Design!”
And forget the standard decorations of golden statues and cliché champagne flutes. This year, use movie titles and themes to inspire your décor. Sprinkle brightly colored balloons around the house in large bunches to highlight the animated film Up. Put out some of those old college textbooks you’ve got stored in the attic if you’re rooting for An Education to take home the award. Better yet, hang dozens of paper airplanes from the ceiling to pay homage to George Clooney’s performance in Up in the Air.
Even the food and drink table can get in on the action with a custom beverage you can dub The Hurt Locker! And if you’re brave and have awesome cooking skills, you can try making dishes featured in Julie & Julia. Yummy!
Last but not least, don’t forget to print up a ballot that lets everyone make a prediction for the night’s big winners. Just search the Web to find a printable ballot.

Oscars party widget
I found this post after doing some searching around for good Oscars party blog posts. My name is Erick B with Media Needle on behalf of Hyundai. We're trying to spread the word about a fun recipe widget for the Oscars...(think UPcakes, Inglourious Custards). It's a timely little something to share with your readers. The actual widget is easy to install, but anyone can find the recipes on Hyundai's Facebook page, http://bit.ly/hyundaioscarsrecipes.
Enjoy the show!
