Put Your Stamp on It: A Personalized Touch for Your Handmade Gifts

When a birthday or holiday comes around, I like to show friends and family how much they mean to me by making gifts based on their personal taste. I make everything from customized jewelry and baked goods to quilts and handmade card sets for birthdays, weddings or holidays. For Christmas this year, I made a photo book for my parents with all the memories we shared in 2010.

To highlight the fact that these gifts are handmade, I ordered a customizable rubber stamp that I’ve turned into a “signature tag” to accompany all of my handmade surprises.

After my stamp arrived, I stamped-up heavy craft paper and created a handful of labels to easily tie or tape on to my presents. Try using a variety of designs and colors for the paper, so you have plenty of options to coordinate with your gift-wrapping. In the example above I punched a hole in the corner, and then threaded a piece of matching ribbon to hang the label from the present. If you’re baking a special treat, you can include the label on the outside wrapper. And if you’re giving a handmade card, simply stamp the back of the card. But be sure to let it dry well or the ink may smear. I’m excited to use my customized stamp for all my projects to add a simple but personal touch!

Here are some shots of my past projects where this stamp would have come in handy.

So, tell me…what’s the best handmade gift you’ve received or made? How do you let recipients know the gift was made just for them?

stained glass -handmade items

I always engrave my name and a sentiment to the person, on the front or back of the stained glass item i made.  That way, it's enduring and sends the hand-made warmth that went into it each time the recipient sees it.
