Race Track Play Mat
Now that my son is toddling around, I'm looking for activities that keep him busy but don't make our house look like a toy store showroom.
That's when I got the idea to make a play mat I can roll up to store in a closet or under a bed. The vinyl used to make banners is the ideal material for this craft. It's durable, it's easily wiped clean, and you can make a custom design. Win, win and win!
Here's how I did it:
First, pick a size. I chose 3 feet by 5 feet – not too big, not too small and just right for the little guy I had in mind.
Second, plan your design. I wanted mine to look like a race track for little cars, but you could also do a small city or the blueprints of a house for a little girl to play with her dolls. Put on your creative thinking cap and see what else you can come up with! For me, this was the most time-consuming part of the project, but I'm sure those with design skills can really go all out on this step.
I designed my race track in simple design software by drawing shapes, but you could also freehand your design and scan it in, save it as a PDF and have that printed. Just work with your local FedEx Office® team members to get the proportions just right. Find the location nearest you here.
Then I uploaded my finished design using FedEx Office® Print Online and selected custom options for the finished product (no grommets since I wouldn't be hanging it).
The order was ready in just a few days and it was all set up for playtime!
