Road Trip! Kids Activities Round-Up

Another week, another round-up! Now that we’re past Valentine’s Day, I’m already starting to get spring fever - which to me means vacation. Road trips, sunshine, maybe a beach! Trips like that can be a little tough with small kids though, so I thought I’d share a few ideas I’ve come across that keep the little ones busy while on the road or in the air. And who knew there’d be SO MANY ideas – and Web sites – out there to help parents with this challenge! Here are a couple of my faves:

  • MomsMinivan.com - This site is chock full of free, downloadable projects and games for kids for all ages. From Car Bingo and I Spy, to Sing-Along songs, this site is a great first stop when planning the trip.
  • Delicious Baby is all about how to enjoy traveling with kids. Blogger Debbie has learned a few things and shares them all from her blog. One of my favorites was her Top Ten list for keeping toddlers entertained on a plane. Check it out here.

And here’s an idea of my own. Take some of the great (and free!) downloadable games, puzzles, coloring book pages and more you can find online, and bind them up into a one-of-a-kind activity book. You can customize a cover in your kid’s favorite colors, and insert all the activities you know will be up their alley. If your daughter is into princesses and fairy tales, make a whole section of the book devoted to castles and unicorns. If your son loves to build things, find games and coloring book images featuring trucks or cranes. And, of course, bind everything up with a clear plastic cover at your local FedEx Office so the books don’t get too banged up during the trip!
