At our house, the age-old question – “What’s for dinner?” – is usually met with some groans. It takes a lot of work to find good recipes – or even recipes with ingredients that we’ve actually heard of before! Then you have to plan the meals, do the shopping, put the groceries away and THEN cook the meal…it’s a lot of work! Sometimes, because it is just the two of us, we find that it’s easier to grab some kind of take out.
But even then the question remains – what kind of take-out? Drum roll, please…I’d like to introduce to you the take-out menu organizer! It’s a simple concept, really. Each time you’re in a restaurant that you like, you grab a copy of their takeout menu and then slip into a page-protector sheet in a three-ring binder. Then, when you’re beyond starving and trying to figure out what to order or pick up, you have all the options readily available with contact information, too.
Ours has grown over the years as we collect more and more menus, so I’ve divided it by type of cuisine. You can make these fun tabs to use as dividers and save yourself some page-flipping. I’ve learned that organizing sections like this makes the navigation much easier, especially if a certain type of food is all you’ve got on the brain. You’ll notice that in our book, pizza and sweets have their own tab! If you'd like to make your own tabs, check out this template from Microsoft that I’ve found very easy to use.
I’ve discovered that this can be a helpful gift too. I made one for a friend who was going away to college so that she’d have plenty of late-night study snack options, and it’d be a great gift for a new neighbor who has just moved in, too.
If you like the idea and want to make your own, I’ve made my cover design a downloadable template for all the readers. Just check it out here.
And now you’ll always have dozens of ways to answer the question, “What’s for dinner?”!
