A “Sweet” Baby Shower Game

Guest blogger Katie Nasche is a communications advisor for FedEx Office. Katie is a busy mom of two girls, and in her spare time, she enjoys baking and scrapbooking. Today, Katie shares with us a fun idea for a baby shower game.

I recently co-hosted a baby shower for a friend, and we played a fun and funny game I wanted to share. It was a spin on the children’s memory game where players take turns choosing two cards looking for a match.

We used a large piece of poster board as our game board instead of making baby-themed cards that players turn over. We then numbered a stack of sticky notes from 1-34 (you can do more or less for as many matches as you want). We put the sticky notes in neat rows along the game board, and behind each one we wrote a pregnancy or baby-related word like “Baby Girl” or “Epidural.” Remember – each word has to appear twice on the game board, so you’ll need half as many words as you have sticky notes.

Once the shower’s underway, players take turns choosing two numbers on the game board. The host removes the corresponding sticky notes to reveal whether the words behind them match.

The fun part is the candy prizes that are given to the player that finds each match, because we found candy brands that represented each of the words we chose. For example when “Baby Girl” was matched, the player received a Baby Ruth candy bar. Our guests had a great time guessing what the candy prize might be before it was revealed! Some of the words and candy prizes we used included:

·         Daddy = Sugar Daddy® candy

·         10 pound baby = Whoppers®

·         Epidural = Lifesavers®

·         Breastfeeding = Milky Way®

·         Twin Boys = Mike and Ike®

·         Delivery Doctor = Butterfinger®

·         Labor and Delivery Nurses = Sweet Tarts®

·         Hospital Bills = 100 Grand®

·         Postpartum Tummy = Jelly Belly®

·         Baby Giggles = Snickers® or Chuckles®

·         Baby Bump = Mounds®

Everyone enjoyed the game so much that we decided to save it for future use. I took the poster to FedEx Office to laminate it for better durability. You could easily create a Microsoft® PowerPoint or Word document with the game board and have FedEx Office print it on oversize poster paper and then mount and laminate it. They have a sale on now through May 31 for large prints like this. You might also consider using blue or pink post-it notes if you know the baby’s gender.
