Christmas Memories Exchange

Guest blogger Katie Nasche is a communications advisor for FedEx Office. Katie is a busy mom of two girls, and in her spare time, she enjoys baking and scrapbooking. Today, Katie shares with us some fun ideas for a holiday-themed scrapbook.

Last year, my family began a fun tradition of exchanging Christmas memories. It came about because we transitioned from purchasing gifts for each other individually to a white elephant exchange. I didn’t want to lose the sentiment that came with choosing just the right gift for each of my family and friends.

So, we decided to “exchange” a favorite Christmas memory. We wrote down our story prior to the gift exchange, and after the white elephant, we took turns reading our memories to the group. I can’t tell you how fun it was to hear my dad talk about his favorite Christmas as a boy or to hear my sister’s perspective on one of my own favorite Christmas memories.

We bought a scrapbook to collect the stories, and we’ve added photos, specialty paper and embellishments to complement them. You can easily scan old photos to be re-printed at your nearby FedEx Office location, and you can order digital prints at fedex.com/photo.

If you don’t enjoy scrapbooking, you could simply ask your family or friends to use a uniform paper size (e.g., 8.5” x 11”) when writing their stories and then have them bound into a memory book at a FedEx Office store.

We’re going to continue our new tradition, using a different theme each year. We’re writing about our favorite Christmas decorations this year. Some others we’re considering include:
  • Favorite Christmas foods and recipes
  • Funniest Christmas memory
  • Baby’s first Christmas
  • Favorite Christmas song
  • Favorite childhood memory
  • Favorite adult memory

My favorite part of exchanging Christmas memories is that, years from now, we’ll be able to re-read the stories and pass them along to our children as they grow up.

Do you have a favorite memory or funny story from holidays past? We’d love to hear it! Feel free to share your story in the comments section below.
