Give Your Luggage a Lift
Have you ever noticed when you travel that everyone else seems to have a suitcase just like yours? They all look like giant black boxes coming off the conveyor belts. Some of us tie colorful ribbon to the handle or use a bright-colored luggage tag. I have done both, only to find myself trying to remember the color of the ribbon. And then there was this one time when the contact card from my luggage tag went missing altogether! I figured it must have fallen out somewhere in transit.
So, I decided to make my own personalized laminated luggage tags with photos of my dog Oreo. First, I ordered and printed four wallet-size photos of Oreo. Then I made a document listing my contact information four times in 3” x 4” blocks as follows:
Property of
Name
Street Address
City, State, Zip Code
Phone Number with Area Code
Next, I printed out the document and cut out the individual contact info listings. Since I have never been able to cut a straight line, I used the professional cutting machine in the self-service area of the store to trim the photos and paper contact cards so they lined up neatly back-to-back and fit inside the luggage tag lamination sleeves. Finally, I followed the instructions above the lamination machine, let each tag cool off for about 30 seconds, and affixed the tag loops. Now I’ve got my own unique luggage tags featuring Oreo’s adorable face! Plus, with the contact card sealed inside the sleeve, I don’t have to worry about it falling out on my next trip.
Here are some alternatives for making your own luggage tags:
- Use your business card or an address label instead of printing out paper contact cards.
- Repurpose an old photo like a wallet-size version of your kid’s school picture or a scenic image from a past trip.
- Take a digital photo, reduce it to the size of a business card (2” x 3.5”) using photo editing software, and print it in color on white paper.
