New Year’s Resolutions Series:
The Daily Balancing Act

While FedEx Office centers were running full force through the holiday season, the world of event planning for the company paused – and I was allowed some much-needed time for self-reflection. In the spirit of being a better person in the New Year, I have decided to put as much emphasis on perfecting my relationships and projects outside the office as I do on the job. So before we get any further into January, I’m laying my resolution out there so the world can hold me accountable. I will achieve work-life balance in 2010!
I know I’m not alone in this pursuit. It seems like every year I see articles with tips and tricks on how to make it happen. I think Sonya’s post earlier this week was a great starting point, so I jumped in by creating an organizational calendar and goal chart to keep track of my personal and business activities and goals. With this tracker in front of me when I’m in the office, my next step was to create something that will work when I’m on the road. For that one, I’m committing to using my smart phone more often to help me keep track of my meetings and to-do’s as well.
If you don’t have a smart phone, just hit the Web and explore free resources that help you track birthdays, remind you about appointments, etc. Lots of e-mail systems have great tools like these already available and you can find cool ones online, too.
Hopefully these two steps will help me to find better balance in life. I know it will make me a stronger teammate at home and at work, so fingers crossed I can make this resolution stick! Hope you’re all well on your way to making your New Year’s Resolutions a reality, too. If you have any ideas for my quest for work-life balance, leave them below!
