Personal Branding Made Simple

I hear the term “personal branding” a lot these days – it seems that it’s become one of those dreaded corporate buzzwords. But it’s actually very important to establishing a business and forging relationships.
Presentation is one of the most important elements of personal branding. Start by determining what you want to represent to others and then live that brand in everything you do and say. The good news is that online resources are making it easier than ever to market yourself or your small business in the same way corporations have been marketing themselves for years.
Here are some tips to creating and maintaining your personal brand:
- Create your brand statement. Consider what differentiates you from others. What are you known for? What value do you bring to your work and to relationships? Put it in writing. This is the most important step in creating your brand.
- Be consistent. Once you have defined your brand, carry it out in everything you do. Whether it’s the way you dress, your online presence or your e-mail signature, remember that everything you do and say reflects your brand.
- Utilize every opportunity to express your brand. Remember to carry it through in all of your materials, such as business cards and stationery – which can all be ordered online. Doing so will reinforce your brand at every touch point.

Personal Branding
This is something I have been needing to work on. That's my new years resolution. Thanks for the reminders.
Oh yes...New Years is coming
Oh yes...New Years is coming soon! Be sure to check back in early January for tips to help you keep your resolutions.
Terrific Point!
I will admit, I hadn't thought much about corellating my online branding with my offline branding. I spend a lot of time online, worrying about "branding" - but I had never thought about how even dressing can "brand" you as well. As an artist, my style of dress seems to revolve around paint-ridden sweat pants, old t-shirts, and boxer shorts - because that's what I'm most comfortable in when I create. However, that does not portray the "brand" I want!
Thanks to your post, I now realize I need to spend a little less time worrying about my "branding" on paper - and spend more time making sure my personal style coordinates with everything else I've done to create my brand. Thanks for the great tips!
