Remembering Veterans All Year Long

Today we celebrate Veterans Day, a day to recognize all those who have served in the armed forces to protect United States and its people. The Out of Office Blog team wants to recognize all the great men and women who have served this nation and continue to protect its freedoms today.
Many of you may know a friend or family member in the armed forces. A few months ago, my brother left to serve overseas in Afghanistan. Although I think of him often, I don’t send e-mails or packages as often as I’d like. So, I created a small “Encouragement Card” that reminds me to send support to my brother through e-mail or by mailing a care package, like we did around Memorial Day. I designed the business card to include his photo and contact information – plus it fits nicely in my wallet. Now when I go to mail a package, I always have his address handy.
These simple, affordable cards can be made on your home computer and then finished at FedEx Office. You can find a guide in our Templates and Tools section that is set up for eight Encouragement Cards, enough to pass out to family and friends (think stocking stuffers for the holidays).
If you have a friend or family member serving overseas too, here are quick tips for making my Encouragement Cards:
- Use the Out of Office Template as a guide for designing and laying out the cards.
- Insert a photo, mailing address and e-mail.
- Print your finished design on 8.5” x 11” paper at home or FedEx Office. If you’re printing double-sided to save paper, make sure you do a test to ensure you’ve lined up the front and back of the card accurately. Trim the cards with a paper cutter to 2” x 3.5”.
- Use the self-service laminator at FedEx Office to make sure your cards stay in good shape no matter how many times you take them out of your wallet. And if you have questions about how to use the laminator, don’t hesitate to ask team members to show you how to work the machine; they’re very helpful!
