Valentine’s Day Round-Up - Part II!

Every year, I look forward to Valentine’s Day because I know it means getting delicious sweets from loved ones. This year, I thought I’d return the favor and bake up some goodies for my friends and loved ones to enjoy. (Not that I don’t still want that heart-shaped box of chocolates for myself, too!) And what better way to show others you care than with some tasty treats made just for them! So for our weekly round-up, I’ve found some yummy recipes worth sharing for anyone else in the mood to bake this weekend! And make sure you check out the fun project I whipped up at the end to go along with the goodies!

  • For traditional Valentine’s Day butter cookies with a twist, check out this blog post from Nikki, In Stitches. She updated her great-grandmother’s recipe by dipping the cookies in chocolate and crushed candy canes left over from the holidays. Try using white chocolate instead of dark to give it the traditional Valentine’s Day color scheme.
  • The most easy-to-make recipe that both kids and adults can enjoy has to be Rice Krispies treats. I found an article on Examiner.com that shares several ideas to help you turn a classic recipe into an ooey, gooey Valentine’s Day treat.
  • And for the wanna-be-Martha’s out there, try tackling a recipe for decadent homemade truffles. The Willow Bird Baking blog gives tips to help you make Red Velvet Cake Truffles or Oreo Truffles. Follow the step-by-step instructions right here.
  • I also loved the cinnamon love knots on Taste of Home because they look sugary and sweet, but no one will judge if you eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Let us know if you try any of these, and if you give them a shot, consider making up a spoof “nutritional label” to go along with them in the gift box. You can download a version I made by clicking the link in the "Downloads" section below. I know this will get a few laughs!

Hi Rob! You can access the downloadable labels under the Nutrition Label image, above the Comments section. Even though Valentine's Day has passed, I hope you'll try them out. If your friends are anything like mine, they'll appreciate sweet treats anytime of the year.
