Make a Memorable Canvas Print for your Valentine

Picking a Valentine’s Day gift for a guy can be tricky – you want to give him something thoughtful and from the heart, but definitely nothing stuffed, glittered, or smothered in chocolate.

This year I decided to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art for my boyfriend. This is really easy to do at your local FedEx Office® because they can turn your favorite photo into a canvas print in just a couple of days. And to sweeten the deal, now through February 28, 2013 they are 50% off in store! (Get a coupon here.) ...read more

Personalized Valentine’s Day cards make school parties more fun!

Remember being a kid and decorating a shoe box in pink and red paper, glitter and candy hearts? This year is my son’s first school Valentine’s Day party and it has me reminiscing about when I was kid. It was so fun to open my special Valentine box and find cards and candy from my classmates. He’s starting to build friendships, so I wanted to make something extra special for him to share with the kids in his class. These are so easy to make and everyone will know exactly who gave them.

Here’s how you make them:
1.     Find a good photo of your child. You can take one or use a school picture.
2.     Bring the photo (you can scan the hard copy or save a digital image file to a USB drive for the best quality) to FedEx Office®. At the self-service photo printing kiosk, you can create 4” x 8” photo cards.

Making Sweet Treats Sweeter This Valentine’s Day

Many of you probably know this quote from a famous movie: “Life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get.” Well, yeah, you kinda do. You’re going to get a heart-shaped (usually) cardboard box that isn’t very fancy – or personal.   ...read more

Give the Gift of Canvas Photo Art

I always enjoy taking photos to capture a beautiful sunset or memories with friends. Too often these photos sit on my computer untouched, but there are so many creative projects that can be made with a simple photo.

For my dad’s birthday, I made him a canvas photo print showing off his beloved dog, Boston. My dad has been interested in starting a photography business and this is a great way for him to display his work in a larger-than-life format (No exaggeration! Boston is only five pounds!). Another idea is making your kids’ artwork or family photo into art on canvas as a special gift for Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day Cards, Cards and More Cards!

Last Valentine’s Day I shared with you all a cute photo card idea for kids to give to friends and family.

I was looking for something that my son could give to his classmates that was both age-appropriate and special. These cards were a big hit and they definitely stood out from the rest of the class!

Valentine’s Day Series: V-Day Party Games

Love is in the air and Valentine’s Day parties are on the calendar. At least I hear they are. None for me this year, but I have fond memories of homeroom mothers hosting get-togethers in elementary school classrooms. There’s nothing quite like getting second graders hopped up on sugary treats at 3:00 in the afternoon before the buses come…

If you’re one of those homeroom mothers (or teachers) and need to give kids an outlet for their sugar-fueled energy, consider playing a Valentine-themed game with them. I have a few ideas below.

Pin the Heart on Cupid’s Arrow

You never know when love will strike. Help Cupid out by pinning the heart on the tip of his arrow. It’s similar to “Pin the Tail on the Donkey,” but with a holiday twist. You can have a poster-size image of dear Cupid printed and laminated at a FedEx Office location for just a few dollars. Then you just need pins and little cut-out hearts. It’s easy to play, requires minimal set up and materials and fun for all pages.

Valentine’s Day Series: Crafty Cards Made Easy

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I’m sure all of our Out of Office readers are getting ready for the big day. Whether you’re picking out a thoughtful gift for that special someone or helping kids assemble Valentines for their classmates, February 14th will be here before we know it.

It seems like for every holiday, I have grand designs of creating elaborate, handmade cards for my family and friends. But the occasion always sneaks up on me and I don’t end up sending anything. This year, I have the same good intentions, but I came up with a solution to help me actually get the cards into the mailbox.

Instead of individually making cards, I decided to create a digital template. This way, I can focus on one design and quickly print all the cards at the same time. I’ve shared my template here, but you can also find lots of good ideas on the FedEx Office Design & Print Center website. ...read more

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I’m just going to put this out there -- I love Valentine’s Day! I love the candy, the pink and red decorations, the hearts, the mushiness…all of it. In fact, this day holds special meaning for me because my parents got engaged on Valentine’s Day exactly 31 years ago!

Some people aren’t fans of the holiday, but I think it’s fantastic.  What better opportunity do you have to tell the people in your life that you care about them? Last year, I found these adorable cards that said, “A Valentine to show you just how nice it is to know you.” It’s that spirit that makes me love Valentine’s Day so much. So when Cupid aims his arrow today, don’t duck!

Valentine’s Day Round-Up - Part II!

Every year, I look forward to Valentine’s Day because I know it means getting delicious sweets from loved ones. This year, I thought I’d return the favor and bake up some goodies for my friends and loved ones to enjoy. (Not that I don’t still want that heart-shaped box of chocolates for myself, too!) And what better way to show others you care than with some tasty treats made just for them! So for our weekly round-up, I’ve found some yummy recipes worth sharing for anyone else in the mood to bake this weekend! And make sure you check out the fun project I whipped up at the end to go along with the goodies! ...read more

A Coupon Worth More than Just Cents Off

When you’re thinking about what to give for Valentine’s Day, you may be tired of the same old gift ideas — chocolates, roses, jewelry, etc. This year, consider a handmade gift for the people you love, because they always seem to be the ones that are treasured long after the holiday has passed.

An easy-to-make gift is a booklet of love coupons. The coupons themselves can be for anything – cooking a meal, doing a chore or errand for your loved one, or just a fun activity.
