Wedding Series: The Wedding Tree

Now that the major details of my fast-approaching wedding are nailed down, I’ve been looking for ways to make the event unique and special for our families and guests. One way that I’m honoring our parents and families is by putting both sets of our parents’ wedding pictures on the guest book table beside our engagement picture. Another way is by putting a modern spin on the guest book…a wedding tree.

I have a lovely satin guest book, replete with beads and a bow, but this “guest book” is different. Basically, it’s a sketch of a tree without leaves that I’ll frame for our guests to “sign” using their thumbprints to make the leaves.

Yes, our guests will sign the fancy traditional book on the day of the wedding, but at the rehearsal dinner - where our immediate family and wedding party will be in attendance - we’ll ask them to complete our tree.

I can’t take credit for this genius idea; the creativity came from Weddingbee.com. But I wanted to show you how I made my own with the help of a local FedEx Office and their oversized printing service.

Here’s the framed sign instructing our guests on how to “sign” our tree:

And here’s a sample of what I hope the tree will look like after our guests have stamped it:

It’s a beautiful keepsake for our new house (we have some empty walls to fill!) and I hope it will always remind us of good times and our wonderful guests – especially our combined seven nieces and nephews who will be ages 4 through 15 at the time of the wedding. It’ll be fun years down the road to see their little thumbprints and handwritten names, and I’m sure they’ll love putting their stamp on this print.

If you, too, want to make a wedding tree, check our Templates & Tools section for the downloadable project instruction sheet and template.
