Learning in a Flash

Guest blogger Katie Nasche is a communications advisor for FedEx Office. Katie is a busy mom of two girls, and in her spare time, she enjoys baking and scrapbooking. Today, Katie shares with us some fun ideas for flashcards.
Now that my daughter is a first grader, school is serious business. She has spelling and reading tests and math problems. To help her learn, I decided to go with the tried and true method of flashcards.
There are some great websites with templates that make it easy to do your own. I like the free template from www.kitzkikz.com/flashcards because it’s double-sided, so you can put an addition problem on the front and the answer on the back.
They work great for sight words too. Each week, when I get the new list of words from her teacher, I can type them into the template. I like to print mine at the nearby FedEx Office because they can quickly cut and laminate them too, which makes them more durable. I used their self-lamination machine, which has pre-cut lamination sleeves that are just the right size for flashcards. As a bonus, this whole set of flashcards cost me less than $3!
These are great because my daughter and I can practice together or she can use them by herself. It’s so easy, I decided to make some to practice colors with my 22 month-old baby. I had the FedEx Office team punch a hole in the upper left corner, and then I threaded a ribbon through the holes to keep them together and make them easy to take with us. Flashcards are useful for learning just about anything, whether it’s multiplication tables, spelling words, another language or color identification. And making them yourself couldn’t be easier!
