Before May Flowers Come April Showers…

…bridal showers that is! With wedding season right around the corner, the invitations are starting to pile in for spring and summer weddings, as well as the accompanying bridal showers and other pre-wedding celebrations.

Bridal games can be great ice-breakers for the guests to get to know each other (especially as you get to know your fiancé’s extended family) and I developed some tips for easy-to-make customized games to add a special touch to the event.

Here are a few ideas to jump-start your creativity:

·         Bridal Gift Bingo– Create standard bingo cards but instead of numbers and letters, include images of typical bridal gifts. As the bride opens the gifts at the shower, the guests mark off the corresponding gift if they have it on their card. The player with a completed row of gifts wins a giveaway prize. If you want to let guests fill in their own card with gift possibilities, just laminate the bingo card template (gift names removed) so guests can write in their own answers with dry-erase markers. Bonus – you can reuse these cards next time you’re throwing a shower, too!

·         Wedding Word Scramble – Jumble common wedding words (reshus = ushers; trarge = garter) and have the shower guests quickly unscramble the letters. Here’s an example of a wedding word scramble I created: either print these ready-to-go cards on heavy cardstock or use as inspiration for one of your own!

·         How Well Do You Know Your Groom? – Prior to the shower, someone interviews the groom on different questions about himself (e.g. favorite food, dream vacation spot, biggest pet peeve, etc). Create flash cards with these answers and at the shower, read the questions to the group: the bride attempts to answer each question and each guest writes down how many they think the bride will get right.

What are your favorite bridal party games and traditions? What did you play at your own shower? Let us know your favorite ones in the comments!
