New Year’s Resolutions Series:
Put your Schedule Front and Center

As you may have gathered from my bio, I am the self-proclaimed organization guru of the group. To my credit, I have taken numerous personality tests that reveal I am innately detail-oriented and organized. I have found over the years that one way to keep New Year’s resolutions (and organize my time) is to use a weekly or monthly schedule.
For example, last year I committed to becoming more active and signed up for a series of running classes. With each class, I received a monthly schedule with my running and strength training assignments detailed by day. I put this up on my refrigerator so that it was front and center – serving as a daily reminder of what I needed to do. By the time I finished the 18 weeks of training, I reduced my run time per mile by four minutes and was able to run for longer distances.
I recommend you create a schedule or goal chart as well to help you with your resolutions. You can design one with Microsoft Word, which has templates to get you started. Or go the old-fashioned route and draw one yourself, adding inspirational quotes and cute drawings in the borders to give it a personal touch. The important part is to include actions items for each week to keep you on track.
To avoid getting the crinkled edges or juice splatters on it like I did, consider having it laminated. The bonus with lamination is you can use the chart over and over again. Just remember to use dry-erase markers!

this can really help organize kid homework
My second job is 5th grade tutor to my daughter. A laminated reusable homework checklist would be a great study skills tool! I am all over it. Thanks!

I so need this type of organization! Thanks for the tips!
I can't commit
I can commit to the exercise but not to the chart. I wish I could though because it would be very helpful. I tend to lose pieces of paper and if it's on the computer I forget to log on and update. It's a great idea though...I love that by using this chart you decreased your run time.
