Create a Reusable Yard Sign for Group Events

It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me on the blog, but I’m back at it with a new crafty – and super easy – idea.

I stay busy as a wife and mother, and I wear a lot of hats, including Parent Teacher Association (PTA) board member, Women’s Junior League member and more. As co-chair of Wine and Design, an interest group for my local Early Childhood PTA, I help organize our monthly get-togethers. They are very casual -- our group of moms comes together to enjoy wine and talk shop about decorating.

Lately I’ve noticed that as the nights grow longer and the days shorter, it gets harder to find the right house for the event! And let’s face it -- GPS only gets you so far, which leaves navigation up to good ol’ night vision. More than once I have driven up and down a street trying to read house numbers in the dark. Then it dawned on me: why not make a yard sign to help attendees find the right place? ...read more

Make Your House a Home with a Personalized Photo Collage

Sometimes it is difficult to find artwork that is unique and personal. In my home, I have a couple of paintings I really like, but wanted to add something different created just for my family. Coffee with the Bloggers: Amanda

Q: If you weren’t blogging for Out of Office, what kind of blog would you want to write?

A: A lot of people claim to be foodies. Well, I am a food nerd! Food science fascinates me, so I’d love to write a blog on everyday nutrition and cooking tips that are easy for anyone to follow. I’d incorporate a section on how certain foods fuel different parts of the body. Of course, it would have to have a glint of humor in there, too. Who wants to read a boring blog on yams?

Q: Favorite type of food? ...read more

Race Track Play Mat

Now that my son is toddling around, I'm looking for activities that keep him busy but don't make our house look like a toy store showroom.

That's when I got the idea to make a play mat I can roll up to store in a closet or under a bed. The vinyl used to make banners is the ideal material for this craft. It's durable, it's easily wiped clean, and you can make a custom design. Win, win and win!

From Lemonade Stands to Neighborhood Events, These Banners Will Keep You “Green”

I always joke that when you turn into our neighborhood, you've entered the 1950s. We have children playing in the streets and many neighborhood events and gatherings. What I've noticed lately is that with all the events we have going on (lemonade stands, neighborhood association meetings, Friday meet and greets, rummage sale, etc.), we have a real need for signage that can be reused throughout the year, something that looks a little more polished than the spray painted sheets or plywood that everyone uses currently. ...read more
